About Graduations in our team

 About Graduations in our team

Graduations in our team take place twice a year, once in winter (November or December) and once in Summer (June or July).

How will I know if I have to graduate?

You will be told about it, but you should know that if you have attended a minimum of 20 classes since your previous graduation you will have the necessary progress to earn one more stripe.

This is the regular path for white belts, but from the blue belt to black many other factors than just attending and working on the basics begin to have relevance.

So in their case (blue to black belts) it is not just a matter of time, instead it is about developing  a personal game and technical specialization, a process that takes different time for each person.

That said, if you are a blue, purple or brown belt and you have attended at least 20 classes after your last graduation, and you have progressed in that specialization process, you can also receive another stripe or belt change.

What guarantees that I am learning correctly?

We work with two fundamental programs that help white belts acquire a solid base of movements and the basic techniques of jiu jitsu.

These techniques are worked periodically during the two and a half years it takes to acquire the four degrees of white belt and the last semester to achieve the blue belt.

If you attend regularly and take the 20 classes between each graduation, the Technique Rotation System we work with and the Planned Teaching methodology working on the techniques of the Blue Belt Requirements Program will guarantee that you are learning the foundations and techniques in a correct way, and that at the end of that time you will have the necessary knowledge and skills to earn your blue belt.

Subsequently, the work on the development of game plans and personal training planning will allow you to work continuously on the development of your favorite combinations and techniques while continuing to improve in the basic aspects.

Will I have to take any exams to graduate?

No, you will not have to do any formal test. Evaluation for accesing the stripes of the white belt and all the belts is done by means of positional and situational sparring during classes and the graduation day.

There are only two additions to the previous system for evaluation:

  • For the first three stripes of the white belt you will be asked to fill a questionaire together with the application of the technical requirements in sparring
  • For the black belt you will have to do some teaching  scenarios.

So the main criteria for graduation in our team is the practical application of techniques and skills in positional and situational sparring.

The situational and positional sparring in classes and in the graduation day force students to try to apply the techniques and skills they have been learning and help students and professors to evaluate their progress.

Professors will look how each students performs in the techniques and skills corresponding for the next stripe or belt while they sparr in classes and in the graduation day.

It is important that you check regularly the Requirements necessary for accesing the next stripe or belt you are aiming for in the  Graduation Requirements Program .

What is the structure of a graduation?
